IFB Researcher, Dr Axel Rossberg of Queen Mary University of London, has made a formal submission to the Nature Positive Initiative (NPI) consultation on State of Nature Metrics.
In the submission, Axel explains concerns that the recommended metric for species extinction risk (STAR) possesses blind spots that could inadvertently facilitate severe ecological damage under the guise of compliance. If the NPI system of metrics is implemented without correction, Axel believes there is significant risk of public backlash that could undermine the broader, vital effort to integrate biodiversity into corporate accounting and accountability.
